“I must have a drink of breakfast.”
-W.C. Fields

It’s Valentine’s Day, and while some may be feting with hearts and flowers, we choose a less expected, arguably more inspired way to mark the day: the morning cocktail. To continue our celebration of Evernote Food’s 28 Days of Breakfast, we asked San Francisco cocktailers Josh Harris and Scott Baird of the Bon Vivants and hot new drink spot Trick Dog for their take on the liquid breakfast.

The Pantone 7621, a standby on Trick Dog’s menu (which celebrates the iconic Pantone color wheel) can be enjoyed solo or serve as a more interesting breakfast/brunch accompaniment than sparkling wine. The drink features a vivaciously fresh mix of beet and lemon juice, Combier liqueur, bourbon, and homemade ginger syrup. For those of you who want something a little more straightforward, we’re also sharing a potent Bloody Mary recipe from our own in-house cocktail aficionado, Evernote technical writer Alex Muramoto. Happy Valentine’s Day, and cheers!
